Hunting Best Deals : Online Shopping in India

I assume if you are reading this you are among the privileged ones from India who have tried their hands at Online Shopping. Most likely you would have had mixed experiences if you have shopped more than once!

Many of us prefer online shopping not only because of the convenience but also because of the amazing offers. Only a few of the Online Shoppers know that discount coupons exist and there are sites other than Flipkart too!

Trying to hunt for the best deals available is a tedious time-taking task though I have enjoyed it at times and shopped from atleast 25+ different websites over the past year. We enjoy when we get rewarded for the efforts we put in hunting the cheapest deal. One of the interesting instance has been when you do a Re.1 transaction using Netbanking to receive a product worth Rs.50 at your doorstep!

Tips from my little experience:

1. Think Outside Flipkart!
Be open to try out other vendor. Get the Flipkart Syndrome out of your head! (No offense to Flipkart! They definitely had the best service quality and cheapest prices at some point of time.)

2. Use Price Comparison Tools:
If you have finalized your product. Use price comparison websites to see the prices across multiple sellers. Some of the price comparison websites I use and would recommend:

ThisYaThat : For books
Smartprix:    For Mobiles, Tablets and Books: I love their comparison tool and also filtering products is very simple and they have an elegant design.
Google used to have a tool Google Shopping which probably they have shutdown in India which was quite useful in finding the best deal.

3. User reviews are very important while making decisions

Do check the user review of the Product before buying . Flipkart and off-late Snapdeal have good collection of reviews.
Reading the negative (lowest rated reviews is a good exercise to know about that one factor which can save you!). Meanwhile be aware of fake reviews! There are tons of them and some of them are paid too.

4. The website every Online Shopper in India should visit

Go to Desidime and search for the product and deals.
DesiDime.com is completely free and user driven online shopping community for the ‘Aam Janta’. It is created to provide a platform for users to Collaborate, make friends and share information in order to make the best shopping decisions.

This probably is the best website for hunting deals. It has a vibrant community of members keeping an eye on the best offers. I probably have visited it more times than Facebook ! Once you get addicted to hunting deals this could become your homepage, if you still keep one!

5. Get best deals without leaving FB
:
For those who don’t have time to visit any  website other than Facebook can use/subscribe to my facebook list
Deals: https://www.facebook.com/lists/3902024430552 which shall help you remain updated about the best offers available online.

6. Earn lots of cash back! CashKaro
Recently I was wondering whether one can earn some discount using their own affiliate links. Surprisingly CashKaro existed and I didn’t know about it before last week.
Using CashKaro  you  can save money on websites like Flipkart, Yatra, Jabong and more.
[Update]I  receive my first cashback through this site! Sign-up and share with your friends to earn cash back.

Note: For my friends from IIT Guwahati, my batchmate Naga Rohit has started Campuz which promises to share the cashback for the noble cause of helping underprivileged kids around IIT Guwahati.

I shall update this with more tips.  Meanwhile do share your experience and best practices while I  explore more deals 🙂
